For our sample reel, we chose the Tonopah Bonanza. This paper first ran as a weekly, starting on Saturday, June 15, 1901 in the booming camp of Tonopah. The camp developed quickly, as did the Bonanza, adding a daily edition in mid 1909. Pictured is an article about the camp’s growth, boasting an population of 4,500 people as of 1903. Tonopah’s population in 2014 was 2,757 people (a decrease of almost -40% from 1903).
