Halloween is only 10 days away! In order to prepare for the spooky holiday, we’ve searched Chronicling America for some Halloween-related articles in the Tonopah Daily Bonanza. Read about historic Halloween traditions, rituals and general mischief in Nevada. Enjoy!

“Mischief Night”  is the most commonly known name given to Halloween Eve. Other modern variations include “Moving Night”, “Devil’s Night”, and “Gate Night”. It doesn’t matter what you call it, the customary night is devoted to young folks engaging in mild vandalism and pranks. One known prank for the night includes taking a gate off of its hinges, leaving livestock to roam free. Tonopah makes note to warn those “younger boys” of causing too much property damage, and instead urges others to have a “general good time”!
